Avoid the Retail Frenzy

5

Christmas is supposed to be about being with family and enjoying the holiday time. Some observe it as a religious time to observe the birth of Christ but somehow along the way Christmas became about money and gifts.

The more that you feed into this frenzy the more stressed out you will become. Many people break the bank when they rush around at the last minute panicking that they didn’t get enough gifts or maybe one child got shorted a gift. You can still buy presents but take it slow and plan ahead. Economise!

When buying gifts for mum and dad, pool your money together with your siblings and buy larger ticket items. You will save this way. Economic times are tight right now so it is alright to shop on a shoestring budget.

Let’s say that you are having the family to your house for Christmas, think of something that the whole family would enjoy but hasn’t purchased or done in a while. Something that you know you will all enjoy. Maybe an expensive bottle of spirits and put together a movie from old pictures. Sit back together enjoying the drinks and watching the movie of old happy days. This would be a gift that your whole family would enjoy, your gift to them all for the cost of the bottle.

It is very important to avoid wastage. Make a list of people to be bought for and don’t add any extras to the list, it will only cost you more. You should always decide in advance how much you plan to spend and don’t go over it and its best not to use credit.

Even if you didn’t spend a lot on a gift you should still wrap the present very nicely as it sort of disguises the fact. Use the Internet to do price comparisons to see if you are getting the best prices. You will get the best savings when you are organised.

If you have a big family where everyone buys presents for each other you might want to consider a Santa’s sack and set a price limit for each present. If you follow these simple tips you will find that you can save a lot of money and you won’t find yourself in the middle of the retail frenzy of Christmas shoppers.

You won’t end up paying for December’s presents in February when at that point most of them are already stashed away or broken by the children. It’s senseless. Again, just staying focused and organised will save you so much heartache down the road. Shop early online for deep savings and the parcels are delivered right to your door. Look for sites that offer free shipping but don’t expect to see much of that very close to the peak shopping season. It is best to do that type of shopping in advance. While everyone is rushing around in the bitter cold to shop you will be enjoying teatime in the comfort of your home.
