Christening Gifts
A child’s Christening is a very important and special time not only in their own lives, but in the lives of their parents and family as well. As they are Christened into the Church and friends and family gather to celebrate this momentous occasion, it is important to pick out respectful, appropriate and properly congratulatory gifts that can be given to mark the occasion. There are several different types of Christening gifts that you can choose between before selecting the perfect one for this occasion.
Keep in mind that the person being Christened is in all likelihood a small child. As such, it is very important to bear in mind what types of Christening gifts they may be able to use – or if you’d prefer to choose a gift that will instead be a keep sake or something that will benefit the child as they grow older. It is also important to keep in mind that a Christening is both a solemn event as well as a joyous occasion. Balancing those two sides are important when selecting the right Christening gifts.
When you begin your search, first consider whether or not you would like the recipient to be able to use their Christening gifts immediately or later on. If you would like them to be able to use them immediately, you may want to select baby related items that the child’s parents can use on them or for them right away. It may also be appropriate to select a very special toy or stuffed animal that the child can begin to love and play with immediately.
Keep sake types of gifts are often given as Christening gifts. Although these cannot be used straight away by the child being honoured, they can adorn a special shelf throughout the years of their childhood as they grow and come to enjoy what the keep sake represents. On the occasion of a Christening, the types of keep sake gifts that are appropriate to give include Church symbols and particularly decorative plaques that may contain a bible verse, or crosses that remind of the event that has just taken place. These types of gifts are often cast in metal or porcelain and can be very delicate or precious, so it is important that the parents understand that these are not toys and must instead be properly displayed.
Jewellery can sometimes be considered a great choice for Christening gifts. If the recipient is a young girl who has already had her ears pierced, consider giving a simple pair of cross earrings that she can continue to wear as she grows older. For either little boys or little girls, simple wrist-band style bracelets bear cross and other church symbols may be a fabulous gift. Again, for little girls, you may also consider either a simple cross necklace, or one more ornate that she can begin to wear when she is a bit older.
Finding the right Christening gifts can take a bit of time, but with appropriate contemplation and consideration, you’re sure to make the right choice!
