Gifts for the Couple Who Has Everything

0

Finding celebratory gifts for couples – for remarriages, anniversaries, or Christmases – can often prove problematic. Two successful people who have been together long enough to establish a home and lifestyle completely customized to their own needs seemingly causes a shortage of gift possibilities for the would-be gift giver. However, there are a few items that are appropriate even for those couples who seem to have everything that they’d ever need or want. While each gift should be given after a reasonable amount of thought and be personalized if possible, some of the least personal items make the best gifts for couples who want for nothing.

Art. This is a tricky one, as most art is highly personal. However, if you are in tune with the couple’s style, it’s possible to choose something appropriate as well as meaningful. If you aren’t too sure of the specifics, but know the general style, find an art shop that specializes in glass work. Shop around or talk to a knowledgeable authority there about what “type” of item you are looking for. A classic option is an organically-shaped vase or bowl in an inoffensive colour like blue or gold. As an added bonus, you can have it professionally arranged with flowers, and the couple can enjoy the arrangement as well as the vessel it’s in. This is both a thoughtful and memorable gift.

A plant. This may seem like a last-minute idea, but it doesn’t have to be. If the couple maintains a garden or enjoys house-plants, a properly-chosen and healthy plant can be a lovely gift. Orchids are beautiful, come in many varieties, and can be selected from specialized growers who can give you proper care instructions to pass onto the couple. For outside gardens, an ornamental tree – think magnolia or Japanese cherry – will be appreciated as something special and unique – and it will bring enjoyment for years to come.

Him/her spa treatments. Many spas have gift packages available that are designed for a “couples” experience. Massages, facials, or relaxation in the steam room are always welcome – both for men and for women. Purchasing a package for couples will allow the couple to share time together that might otherwise be spent away from each other and give them an excuse to schedule “together” time.

Tickets to a show. If you know anything about the couple, it’s not difficult to find tickets for a show that they can go to together. Whether they like opera, ballet, modern dance, theatre, or something else, tickets to local cultural events give the couple a chance to go on a date they might not otherwise schedule for themselves.

High thread-count sheets in white or off-white. Everyone can use an extra pair of sheets, and high thread-count sheets are a thoughtful, useful luxury. Off-white or cream is appropriate in almost every décor. Just make sure to choose the right size sheets if you know how big the bed is. If you don’t know, it’s possible to casually slip the question into conversation.

Dinner at a favourite restaurant. You don’t want to be “typical” and take the couple to dinner? Don’t fret. Everyone likes a nice dinner they don’t have to pay for and an evening spent with friends. Choose a restaurant that offers a wide variety of freshly-prepared dishes and make the time more about socializing than eating. The couple will have a great time, and chances are, so will you!

So don’t stress the next time you have to buy a gift for the couple who has everything. There are still plenty of gifts to be given that show you care.
